Location
Situated on the Tasman Sea, our spectacular panoramic views are ever-changing. We are just off Highway 3, halfway between Auckland and Wellington - very convenient for travellers.
Watch the sunrise from your bed? It's true! Even though we are on the west coast , we face north. Often the morning sky is lit up in all shades of pink reflecting on the deep blue waters. A full moon can be just as beautiful.
Taranaki is known for its Coastal Walkway, suitable for strolling or biking; private and public gardens; museums and art galleries. Mt Taranaki has numerous hiking trails from easy to difficult. Nearby sports include kayaking, golf, surf or deep sea fishing, surfing, horseback riding and even ‘dam-dropping’.
New Plymouth has a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars. One of the most popular restaurants, Waiau Estate, is a 5 minute drive from Cottage by the Sea. A large supermarket is less than 10 minutes away.
Our 10 acres were purchased as bare land in 1991 and now has mature gardens and landscaped lawns. A 1-acre sunken garden provides coluor thoughout the year. The property has 160 avocado trees – a commercial crop. We’re happy to share them if you are here when they are ripe.
